I recently embarked upon Invisalign treatment with Dr Hannan at Siha Dental. As a nervous patient, I was slightly apprehensive however Hannan and his lovely team have really put me at ease and I could not thank them enough. The team are so welcoming, kind and patient. The design of the clinic is incredible and it really has a calming feel. Look forward to my treatment and would highly recommend!

What is a dental crown?
A dental crown — sometimes called a 'cap' — is a custom-made restoration that fits over the entire visible surface of a tooth. It strengthens the tooth, restores its shape and function, and is crafted to blend seamlessly with your surrounding teeth in both colour and form.
At Siha Dental we use the finest porcelain crowns, with careful attention to shade and shape so the result looks and feels completely natural.
This treatment can fix:
- Damaged or cracked tooth
- Tooth that is weakened by decay or large filling over time
- Poorly shaped or discoloured tooth
- Replacing a missing tooth (in conjunction with dental implants)
- Supporting a bridge or denture on adjacent teeth
- Fitted after root canal treatment for extended protection

How to maintain your results
With good care, a porcelain crown can last many years. The crown itself cannot decay, but the tooth underneath still needs protecting — so maintaining your oral hygiene routine is just as important as before.
While your temporary crown is in place, avoid hard, sticky, or chewy foods on that side. Once your permanent crown is fitted, you can eat normally.
Quick Care Tips:
- Brush and floss as normal twice a day focusing on the crown and it’s margin
- Use interdental brushes to clean around the crown margin
- Attend regular check-ups and hygienist appointments at Siha Dental
- Avoid biting very hard objects (ice, hard sweets, pen lids)
Dental crown frequently asked questions
Initially, you might notice that the crown feels slightly different from your natural tooth. This is because the shape and texture of the crown can be a bit unfamiliar at first. However, this sensation is typically temporary. As you get used to the new crown, it should begin to feel completely normal within a few days.
The adjustment period can vary from person to person, but it's common for any minor discomfort or odd sensation to subside quickly. If you continue to feel that the crown is not fitting properly or if it causes discomfort after a week or so, it's important to contact your dentist. They can make any necessary adjustments to ensure a perfect fit.
The longevity of a dental crown largely depends on your oral hygiene practices. While the crown itself cannot decay, decay can occur at the junction where the crown meets the natural tooth.
To ensure the best care for your crown, follow these steps:
- Visit your dentist and hygienist at Siha Dental and Facial regularly for check-ups and cleanings.
- Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
- Floss daily and use interdental cleaners, such as specially shaped brushes and sticks, to remove plaque around the crown.
By maintaining good oral hygiene, you can help ensure your crown lasts for many years.
While you can eat with a temporary crown, it's best to avoid hard, sticky, or chewy foods that could dislodge it. Stick to softer foods until your permanent crown is in place to ensure the temporary crown stays secure.
